Calif. State Senator Vows to Push Life-Sci Bill Without More Stem-Cell Amendments
State Sen. Sheila Kuehl said the amended bill would survive what she said were attempts by the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine, a supporter of embryonic stem-cell research, to make the bill “go away.” Last week the stem-cell agency and a patients’ rights group promised to continue fighting the legislation because they fear it will discourage the funding of human embryonic stem cell research in the state.

New York State Agency ‘Adopts’ Columbia University’s $6.3B Mixed-Use Expansion
The action by the board of the Empire State Development Corp. sets the stage for a future public hearing on the general project plan, which would allow Columbia University to undertake its $6.3 billion mixed-use project into a 17-acre section in West Harlem, located near the school’s main campus. Columbia hopes the project will bring nearly 2.6 million square feet of new research lab space.

St. Louis Eyes Cleveland Consultancy to Assist in Rejuvenating ‘BioBelt’ Cluster
BioEnterprise’s model for business development has drawn interest from Midwestern regions well beyond the firm’s hometown of Cleveland.
